Beyond the Veil 2026 Imagery Artist Statement
"I created this piece of art to support Jill & Andrew in their event Beyond the Veil, which is in its second year, with the theme of Integration. My process of creation involved thinking about what integration means to me.
What does it feel like? I sat in reflection of my own experiences of altered states and integration.
Jill shared with me the desire to include clouds and sunset colors in the image – a connection to the view from their whare. Andrew suggested puzzle pieces as a symbol of 'putting the pieces together.' In altered states, we don't often get the full picture right away. We use integrative tools to 'puzzle' new ideas, perspectives and downloads together to get a clearer image. These symbols resonated well with me, and gave me some structure with which to start my design process.
After a time of sketching, writing and planning - I decided on my direction."

The final image:
"In the background is a surreal landscape.
We see the sky with clouds in it, land, and the ocean.
This is bordered by stars and darkness.
In the foreground, we see two hands in the process of putting two puzzle pieces together that show the night sky with stars scattered throughout.
There is a sense of bringing part of the universe, the great unknown, into the world as we know it (though maybe a bit different than when we left it!)
The hands represent humanness, and 'doing the work.' And through 'the work' the pieces begin to fit together. Spirals are a symbol I use often in my creations.
To me, they add a mystique, magic, and fantastical feeling to a piece. They can be portals and energy centers and represent life beginning, happening, growing, and evolving. It felt important to show a landscape, as the idea of bringing ideas from the ethereal and unknown (the stars, the sky) into a place of groundedness (the earth) makes sense to me in terms of integration. The elements of air, water, and earth shown in the image can also represent the balance of intellect, emotion, and structure."

Beyond the Veil - Integration
I go somewhere and bring something back.
An altered state takes me beyond my human experience.
To something greater than I.
I go somewhere and bring something back.
From the vast expanse of collective consciousness,
Knowledge of time long past, and that yet to come.
I go somewhere and bring something back.
Time eventually notices I'm gone, and beckons.
I return, gratefully, to the familiar vessel of my body.
Tenderly, I hold the gifts bestowed in that place.
Fragments of the great, cosmic infinity-pieced
puzzle.
